Beck contradicts himself with dishonest Obama/Hamas smear

On tonight's episode of Glenn Beck's Fox News show, Beck began his hour-long broadcast by again discussing the proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero. Beck attempted to smear President Obama by claiming that his comments show that is “in lockstep” with the leadership of Hamas on the issue.

Beck's claim, of course, is false. The comments from Hamas' senior leader, Mahmoud Al-Zahar address the reason why he believes a mosque should be built. Al-Zahar suggested that "[w]e have to build everywhere - in every area we have Muslims we have to pray, and this mosque is the only site of prayer."

By contrast, President Obama made it clear that his comments were centered on “the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” not on whether such a center should be built. Beck knows this -- in fact, Beck's attack today directly contradicted his criticism of the president from a day before.

Indeed, only yesterday, Beck attacked the president's comments on the center for taking a position only on whether the center could be built, not whether it should be built. Beck called Obama's remarks “ridiculous” and attacked their relevance, suggesting that “there is no constitutional argument over whether Muslims have the right to practice their religion,” and "[w]hat is at issue is the wisdom of this mosque."

Beck is trying to have it both ways by criticizing Obama for not commenting on the “wisdom” of building the Islamic center one day, and falsely claiming that the very same comments show that he has the same mindset as the leaders of Hamas the next.
