Key Trump officials appeared more than 500 times on Fox networks in the first 100 days of his presidency

Fox networks remain a safe space for administration figures

  • Key Trump administration officials appeared on Fox networks over 500 times in his first 100 days in office. President Donald Trump's “border czar” Thomas Homan led all officials with at least 59 appearances while Fox News' Hannity led all shows with 71 interviews.

Trump officials appeared on Fox networks on 96 of the administration's first 100 days. The number of daily appearances by key officials was highest on both February 3, following Trump's announcement of his first set of tariffs, and March 4, seemingly to prime the Fox audience for his congressional address that evening, with at least 13 appearances on each day.

  • Key Trump administration officials appeared at least 536 times on Fox networks

  • Media Matters looked at Fox appearances by key nominated or confirmed Trump officials during the administration’s first 100 days. Trump's “border czar,” Thomas Homan, remains the most prominent administration official on the networks, appearing at least 59 times in total. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt (40 appearances), deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller (40), and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin (33) followed. Rounding out the top five most frequent officials who appeared on Fox is former counselor to the president Alina Habba who had 29 appearances before she left the administration when Trump appointed her interim U.S. attorney for the district of New Jersey on March 24.

  • Trump himself has also been on Fox News several times since his inauguration, appearing at least 8 times in: 2 multiepisode interviews on Hannity, 1 multiepisode interview on The Ingraham Angle, 1 interview on Special Report with Bret Baier, and 1 interview on Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo.

  • Fox shows are a trusted choice for Trump administration interviews

  • Hannity far outpaced all other shows with at least 71 appearances from key Trump officials. Host Sean Hannity interviewed at least 19 unique Trump officials, with Miller (14 appearances), Homan (11), and Leavitt (11) appearing the most. Hannity reliably fawned over guests and the Trump administration, often playing clean-up for controversial actions and laying the groundwork for guests to attack critics.

Following Hannity were Fox & Friends (52), The Ingraham Angle (48), and Jesse Watters Primetime (34), alongside the network's so-called “news-side” shows The Story with Martha MacCallum (34), America's Newsroom (31), and America Reports (28).

On Fox Business, Kudlow (36 appearances), Mornings With Maria Bartiromo (33), and Varney & Company (28) featured the most appearances by key Trump officials. The administration often turned to Fox Business for economic-related news, with the network providing a friendly environment for officials to defend Trump's often "chaotic" economic policies.

  • Former Fox employees who are now administration officials appeared at least 121 times

  • Several of the officials featured on the Fox networks were former employees: former contributor Thomas Homan (59 appearances), former contributor Michael Waltz (21), former network host Sean Duffy (17), former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Pete Hegseth (14), former contributor Tulsi Gabbard (6), and former contributor Marty Makary (4). (Trump has tapped many other former Fox employees to be part of his second administration as well.)

  • Fox had cabinet officials on at least 283 times

  • Overall, cabinet members made up more than half of the total appearances by Trump officials across both networks, with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin appearing at least 33 times, the most of any cabinet official. Attorney General Pam Bondi (24 appearances), Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum (24), Secretary of Energy Chris Wright (22), and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins (20) followed close behind.

Every confirmed Cabinet member appeared at least twice on Fox.

  • Fox functions as a safe space for Trump and his officials

  • Fox hosts and anchors reliably offered a safe space to Trump officials. The Daily Beast said Hannity “tossed” Stephen Miller “softball after softball while reassuring him his shouting and over-the-top rhetoric had been perfectly justified.” An interview with JD Vance on Fox & Friends was described as "extremely friendly." The Arizona Republic's Bill Goodykoontz has described Fox interviews of Trump as a "disgrace," "sycophantic," and "humiliating." And Quinnipiac University professor Mordechai Gordon described Fox hosts as “the President's poodles,” adding that during an interview with Mike Waltz, Waltz and Ingraham “used this opportunity to trash” a perceived enemy of the administration.

And the hosts always have time to try to get a friend out of trouble. In a Fox & Friends interview with their former colleague Pete Hegseth, now the secretary of defense, host Brian Kilmeade raised baseless conspiracy theories surrounding Hegseth's Signalgate scandal, saying, “Do you think ... there's some type of deep state forces that want to make sure you don't stay there?”
