Media Matters has documented the growing trend of Fox News and other conservative media outlets pushing the baseless conspiracy theory that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives (ATF) Fast and Furious program was an intentional covert plan to push gun control laws. As one conservative noted it's a theory lacking "any direct evidence," but that hasn't keep it from being featured on Fox News.
On last night's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, responding to Chris Wallace's citing Fox News coverage of Hurricane Katrina as example of Fox News telling the “other side of the story,” Jon Stewart asked if there was a more recent example of Fox News misinformation. Rather then look back 6 years, Stewart found an example from earlier this month: William La Jeunesse's citing nameless “others” to suggest the Fast and Furious program was meant to “justify tougher gun laws.”
As Jon Stewart noted that was the “news side” of the Fox News operation.
