BRET BAIER (FOX NEWS ANCHOR): Andy McCarthy, your take, and to Chris's point about the questions whether Mueller was really in charge of this investigation.

ANDREW MCCARTHY (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): I think it's inconceivable that Mueller was involved in this investigation. And to my mind, the story that will come out of this testimony is the fact that this was a staff-driven investigation. And President [Donald] Trump, for all we say about the tweets, one thing he has hammered away again and again and again is about the political partisanship of the staff. And I've always thought that while they are highly skilled lawyers, and there is no doubt about their talent and their ability, Mueller was tin-eared in terms of assembling the kind of staff that he assembled for an investigation that was this politically fraught. And seeing now how he performs, I think you have to say that's a lot more of an issue today than it was yesterday.

BAIER: So this is perhaps why [former deputy special counsel] Aaron Zebley is at that table after realizing, perhaps, that the former special counsel was not up to some of this questioning.

...

MARTHA MACCALLUM (FOX NEWS ANCHOR): To Andy's point, this appears to be a staff-driven investigation and that also fills in some of the blanks with regard to when [Attorney General] Bill Barr put out that four page summary of the findings, there was this pushback from Mueller, and now it appears that it probably came from Mueller's team, saying, “Listen, boss, we really need you to get out there and say that this does not accurately reflect the work that we did for the last two years.”

BAIER: Which was [Republican Rep.] Martha Roby's questioning, Katie.

KATIE PAVLICH (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): Well now, because it is clear this was a staff-driven operation, President Trump's claim that these were partisans will certainly be looked at again, and I think he will be proven correct.
