Fox News aired a deceptively edited White House clip to exclude Fox’s own past recognition of Trans Day of Visibility

Fox cable networks aired edited versions of the clip six times throughout its April 1, 2024, programming

Fox News deceptively edited a clip of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pointing out an old Fox social media post celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility.

On April 1, The Five co-host Dana Perino introduced a segment on the fabricated, right-wing media controversy criticizing Biden for recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility, which fell on Easter Sunday this year. In the introduction, Perino included a clip of Jean-Pierre’s response to the controversy; the clip omitted the press secretary’s note that Fox had previously recognized Transgender Day of Visibility in a 2021 post.

A side-by-side view of The Five’s version of Jean-Pierre’s remarks compared to her full remarks illustrates Fox News’ brazen editing.

“We were, at first — I want to be very clear — confused on their coverage,” Jean-Pierre noted in the unaired portion of her statement. “We’re grateful that Fox agrees with President Biden about the importance of recognizing Trans Day of Visibility.” Jean-Pierre then read the 2021 tweet from @FOXTV, which reiterated the company’s support for transgender people: “We see you and stand with you.”

Several other Fox News and Fox Business programs also aired clips of Jean-Pierre’s remarks that omitted her inconvenient callout. Most of the programs chose to air short but uninterrupted snippets of the remarks, but Fox Business’ The Bottom Line with Dagen & Duffy followed The Five’s suit, splicing together cherry-picked clips of Jean-Pierre to exclude her callout.
