Who Made Glenn Beck The Faith Police?

Tonight Glenn Beck launched yet another attack on his frequent target Van Jones. This time it wasn't just a passing jab, either: he spent a whole six minute segment smearing Jones as a violent radical. Here he is, in the middle of that segment, going so far as to attack Jones' faith:

BECK: Somewhere along the line, a guy who called for violence and radicalism on the streets has found Jesus. Okay? I don't know where he did, because as far as I know, Jesus doesn't attend SDS or 9/11 Truther meetings, but maybe-- Hey, you know, you can find him everywhere, right?

What does Beck know about Jones' faith? Absolutely nothing. All he knows is that Jones doesn't share his far right-wing politics -- and that is apparently all he needs to know in order to pass judgment on Jones' religious beliefs.

Of course, Beck has been the self-appointed arbiter of everyone else's religious believes for a while. In the past he's accused Pastor Jim Wallis of perverting the gospels into “socialism” and smeared the entire progressive movement as "enemies of God." Most recently, he attacked Reform Judaism, calling it “less about religion than it is about politics.” You would think getting condemned by the Anti-Defamation League and pushed into an apology for that statement would have taught Beck some humility. But no: however well you think you know your faith, Beck will insist he knows it better. And if you disagree with him, that's only because he loves God more than you do.
