One Day Before The Election, Fox Invites Conspiracy Theorist To Hype Nearly Non-Existent Voter Fraud
One day before the presidential election, Fox News’ Fox & Friends hosted discredited right-wing fabulist and former Department of Justice Attorney J. Christian Adams to baselessly stoke fears of widespread voter fraud and claim that a politicized Department of Justice won’t prosecute voter fraud in order to help Democrats win. Adams, has previously appeared on Fox News to push the baseless claims that the DOJ did not prosecute in the New Black Panthers case because of racially charged corruption.
Fox has repeatedly pushed the debunked myth of widespread voter fraud and given airtime to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims, despite that there is no evidence of any widespread, systemic voter fraud. From the November 7 edition of Fox News’ Fox & Friends:
BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): Alright, Democrats would love for you to believe that voter fraud does not exist. Better chance to get hit by lightning they always say. But this morning, yet another reminder from the guy who interrupted Donald Trump's rally on Saturday, and who many thought he had a gun. His name is Austin Crites, or Crites if you’re trying to keep up with him. He claimed he was a Republican. But it turns out he's a huge Hillary supporter. And his grandmother has been using this address to vote absentee for years. His address to vote absentee for years, but she’s been dead since 2002. Although I miss her, I don’t think she should be voting. Here with more on this growing problem, is a former DOJ employee J. Christian Adams. Christian, this has to surprise you, right?
J. CHRISTIAN ADAMS: Yea I'm shocked, Brian. This is going all over the country. It's a federal felony and of course it will not be prosecuted by this Justice Department. They don't prosecute voter fraud for the same reason they don't prosecute Hillary. Because it's all political at this Justice Department. They know about voter fraud and do nothing about it.
KILMEADE: To me, if voter fraud can go on either direction, I guess people assume that undocumented would go for Democrats, but I don't know if that's necessarily an assumption. However, if you listen to the president of the United States, he wants illegal immigrants, illegal aliens to vote. Let’s listen to him yesterday.
GINA RODRIGUEZ: Many of the millennials DREAMers, undocumented citizens, and I call them citizens because they contribute to this country, are fearful of voting. So if I vote, will immigration know where I live? Will they come for my family and deport us?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Not true. And the reason is first of all when you vote, you are a citizen yourself and there is not a situation where the voting rolls somehow are transferred over and people start investigating, et cetera. The sanctity of the vote is strictly confidential in terms of who you voted for. If you have a family member who maybe is undocumented, then you have an even greater reason to vote
KILMEADE: Am I the only sober one here? An illegal immigrant is being encouraged to vote and don't worry about being tossed out?
ADAMS: It's outrageous lawlessness, the same stuff we’ve seen for years. Brian, this Justice Department has been fighting in federal court, my organization has been fighting them. They are trying to stop citizenship verification in voting. They are doing it all around the country. They are trying to block states from making sure that only citizens are registering and voting. This is a multiyear effort. You are seeing the culmination of it in what President Obama said. Because alien voting is critically important to Democrats to win this election. They are doing it in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida. The Justice Department is standing in the way of preventing this from happening.
