These Are Bill O’Reilly’s Advertisers

Following the latest reports of sexual harassment and misconduct involving Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, a growing list of advertisers are beginning to pull their ads from airing during The O’Reilly Factor time slot.

Advertisers Have Been Fleeing O'Reilly Time Slot

On April 1, The New York Times reported that five women received payments totaling nearly $13 million from either O’Reilly or Fox News’ parent company, 21st Century Fox, “in exchange for agreeing to not pursue litigation or speak about their” accounts of sexual harassment involving O’Reilly, which included “verbal abuse, lewd comments, unwanted advances and phone calls in which it sounded as if Mr. O’Reilly was masturbating.”

Following the revelations, the following companies pulled their ads from airing during The O’Reilly Factor: ADT, Advil, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, Allergan, Allstate, Amica Insurance, AncestryDNA.com, Angie's List, AstraZenecaBamboo HR, Bausch + Lomb, Bayer, BeenVerified, Better Business Bureau of ChicagoBMW of North America, Capital OneCARFAX, Coldwell Banker, Constant Contact, Consumer Cellular, Credit Karma, Crowne Plaza Hotels, E*TRADEEli Lilly, Esurance, Flex Seal, Freshpet, Geico, GlaxoSmithKline, GoodRx, H&R Block, Home Advisor, Hulu, Hyundai, Infiniti, InnoGamesIt's Just Lunch, Jenny Craig, Land Rover, Laser Spine InstitueLegalZoom, LendingTree, Lexus, Liberty Mutual, Lumber LiquidatorsMahindra, Mattress Firm, Mercedes-Benz, MileIQ, Miracle Ear, Mitsubishi, Moberg Pharma, Monsanto, Next Day Blinds, Old Dominion Freight Line, Orkin, Pacific Life, Peloton, Perillo Tours, Pfizer, Progressive, The Propane Council, Reddi Wip, Ring.com, Sanofi, Scottevest, Society for Human Resource Management, Southern New Hampshire University, Stanley Steemer, Subaru, Sunsweet GrowersT. Rowe Price, Touchnote, Trivago, TrueCar, UNTUCKit, VerizonVisionWorks, Voya Financial, WayFair, WeatherTechThe Wonderful Company, and Xfinity.

By Thursday April 6, there was an obvious decrease in the numbers of ads and the number of companies advertising during O’Reilly’s time slot. While The O’Reilly Factor aired nearly 40 ads on Monday’s show (which is typical of the show, give or take a few ads), it was down to 8 by Thursday on DirecTV channel 360 in Washington, D.C., with each day in between showing a decrease in ad numbers. Even as O’Reilly’s April 6 show was also partially preempted for Fox anchor Shep Smith to lead a discussion about the Trump administration’s Syria policy, there was still a massive decrease in advertisers. There was only one ad following O’Reilly’s first segment. On Friday April 7, the ads rose only slightly, finishing the week with 12 -- a drastic plummet overall.
