Days After Conspiracy Theorist Asked Him To, Trump Worries “The Election Is Going To Be Rigged”

Donald Trump echoed conspiracy theorists by claiming that he fears the general election “is going to be rigged” to benefit Hillary Clinton. Trump’s comments come just days after radio host and Trump booster Alex Jones released a video message asking Trump to raise the issue while warning, “she’s going to try to steal the general election.”

Speaking at a rally on Monday in Columbus, OH, Trump claimed the Republican primary had been “rigged” against him and added, “I’m afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest.”

In a video posted on July 30 and headlined, “An Emergency Message to Donald Trump,” Alex Jones said Clinton is “going to try to steal the general election” and urged Trump to “seriously think about making the issue of Hillary’s election fraud in the primaries one of the central issues to defeating her in November.”

Jones said “it is imperative that the Trump campaign make this one of the central issues” of the election. “If she stole the primary, she’s going to try to steal the general election.”

Throughout the campaign, Trump has found a willing media ally in Jones, whose website Infowars.com described him as “one of the very first founding fathers of the 9-11 Truth Movement.”

Trump has appeared on The Alex Jones Show, and his long-time adviser Roger Stone -- who says he still discusses campaign strategy with Trump -- is a regular guest on the program. Stone and Jones also organized a pro-Trump rally during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

As Right Wing Watch notes, Stone has also recently been making the rounds suggesting Clinton plans to steal the election.

Following his acceptance speech, in which Trump echoed Jones’ attack against  “globalism,” the radio host praised the candidate for being “totally synced” with the conspiracy theory movement.
