I must say it's been rather depressing watching Newt Gingrich launch a book tour and the Beltway press mistakes it for a news event. I mean, honestly.

But there was Politico recently pulling its weight, as Mike Allen dutifully typed up whatever loony anti-Obama rhetoric Gingrich was shoveling:

And guess how might beat Obama in 2012? Newt! And no, I don't think there's any possible claim that Gingrich could have made that Politico would not have treated as being deeply newsworthy.

Remind me again why anybody cares what the GOP's failed `90's politician thinks.
