Associated Press May Strip Football Player's Award

Associated Press officials are considering stripping a “Rookie of the Year” award from a member of the Houston Texans who has been found to have used performance-enhancing drugs.

AP sponsors the award, which was given to Texan Linebacker Brian Cushing. But the revelation that he tested positive for an illegal substance has prompted talk of stripping the award, or requiring a re-vote of football writers who choose the winner.

“Dave Goldberg, a former AP reporter and self-described 'advisor' to the AP, said that a re-vote of the Defensive Player of the Year award is 'possible,'” USA Today reported. It also adds: “Cushing got 39 of the 50 votes for the rookie honors.”
