Suddenly Glenn Beck Wants Death Threats To Be Widely Reported?

Well, that's a switch.

But it's true. With the news over the weekend that a victim of the Tucson gun massacre was arrested after threatening the life of a local Tea Party leader, right-wing talkers like Beck, along with their legions of fans, are suddenly very interested in news stories of political death threats and are demanding stories like that be reported extensively.

Of course last year, when it was Democratic members of Congress and their staffs on the receiving end of death threats and acts of violence, the right-wing media didn't care much about it. In fact some outlets, like Andrew Breitbart's site, openly mocked the news of the death threats and blamed Democrats for generating the angry outbursts.

And if you don't recall Beck talking much about those threats last year, you're correct. And that was especially true of the chilling news reports about a Washington state man who left a string of graphically violent death threats for Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) Last year, Beck showed no interest in that story and didn't chastise the media for failing to give it enough attention. Hmm, wonder why?

Could it be because the cousin of the man arrested and convicted of the death threats explained to law enforcement officials that her mentally unstable and “gullible” relative had fallen under the paranoid “spell” cast by Glenn Beck, and that's why he left the death threats?

Could that be the reasons Glenn Beck and Fox News didn't care much about the death threats targeting a Democratic senator last year? It's possible. But whatever the reasons, right-wing talkers ought to be careful when demanding the media shine a brighter spotlight on political death threats, because players like Beck might end up right back in the middle of the story again.
