On July 16, Trump “largely resurfaced widely debunked claims in a 26-minute address from the East Room, alleging ‘vulnerabilities’ in the nation’s election infrastructure without providing evidence that they were actually exploited,” as reported by The Washington Post. Trump’s speech included claims that “members of the U.S. intelligence community and others he referred to as the ‘deep state’ sought to obfuscate evidence that China had interfered in U.S. elections” and suggesting that Venezuela could have hacked voting machines. The Trump administration then released documents to supposedly prove Trump’s election fraud claims, but according to The Washington Post, the released documents “did not substantiate his sweeping claims that U.S. elections are ‘catastrophically short’ of being fair and accurate.” The Washington Post also reported that “the hundreds of pages of declassified documents released ... largely describe intelligence that has already entered the public domain.” [The Washington Post, 7/17/26]

Election deniers have been demanding that Trump issue a “national emergency” order to control election processes. Some election deniers have also drafted and circulated within the Trump administration a draft order that would “empower the president to ban mail ballots and voting machines as the vectors of foreign interference.” [Media Matters, 10/28/25, 6/30/26]

Right-wing media have urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which Trump also pushed in his speech. If passed, the bill would create new barriers for people attempting to register to vote by requiring them to provide documents such as a passport or birth certificate as proof of citizenship. Former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell: Trump’s speech showed “FBI officials were running a shadow government to hide the information about China's interference in our election.” Powell was formerly an attorney for Trump’s 2020 campaign known for spreading false election fraud claims in court. On Brannon Howse Live, VoterGA’s Garland Favorito said the speech showed “Trump has been right all along about election security.” Favorito — who CNN reported has “a long history of promoting debunked conspiracy theories” and a “penchant for pushing election misinformation” — claimed the other “amazing” aspect from the speech was that “the intelligence officials and FBI have been involved in the cover-up of all this.” [CNN, 10/9/24; Worldview Tube, Brannon Howse Live, 7/16/26]

During an appearance on Brannon Howse Live, Douglas Frank claimed the speech was “official confirmation” that voter rolls are being “abused.” Frank — who the Los Angeles Times reported has given speeches across the country as “part of a multi-pronged effort by the election denial movement to make a significant impact on future elections” — also said he had “just given a talk to an audience where I showed exactly what he [Trump] described happening in Wisconsin.” [Los Angeles Times, 7/31/23; Worldview Tube, Brannon Howse Live, 7/16/26]

On a stream, Patrick Byrne claimed the documents showed “the CIA knew since ‘06 that Venezuela was building technology to hack their elections.” Byrne — a prominent fundraiser for election denial efforts who played a role in trying to overturn the 2020 election and has been a major promoter of the false conspiracy theory that Venezuela hacked American elections — said, “We know that they were at least trying to rig their own elections.” He added, “We knew by January 2020 that … the intelligence community knew that Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea all had the capability to rig the U.S. election. On The Roger Stone Show, Election Integrity Network's Cleta Mitchell said, “My understanding from talking with John Solomon and others is that ... the Chinese Communists decided, this is before the 2020 election, that they didn't want to just acquire the publicly available information, which is illegal for them to acquire, so they hacked into systems all across the country.” Mitchell, who after the 2020 election was “among a cadre of Republican lawyers who frantically compiled unsubstantiated accusations, debunked claims and an array of confusing and inconclusive eyewitness reports to build the case that the election was marred by fraud,” was also reportedly briefed in advance by the Trump administration about the July 16 speech. Wayne Willott, also known as “Juan O. Savin,” said Trump “did something very important” with his speech: “He got us on base.” Savin then claimed, “There's a lot of work yet to complete the documentation that shows that foreign entities — governments, businesses, family lines, royal lines — attacked America in order to put people in power over us, to enslave us, that were not the will of the American people.” Savin is tied to the QAnon conspiracy theory and previously recruited election denial candidates for positions where they would be in charge of election administration around the country. He has also claimed to be involved with a proposed executive order for Trump to declare a national emergency over election security. Martin Rodil claimed Trump’s speech and the released documents “expose the real truth of what it was behind, who were colluding, and the level of damage that has been done to ... American democracy.” Rodil, who The Guardian reported last year was involved in “pushing unfounded claims that Venezuela helped steal the 2020 election” to federal investigators, also said “all of us in this fight” now “feel vindicated” after Trump’s speech and document dump. Mike Lindell claimed he received texts “from all over the country right now” saying he's “been vindicated” by Trump’s speech. Lindell, the MyPillow CEO who The New York Times has called a “leader of the election denial movement,” also said the speech and documents “should probably help my Smartmatic case,” referring to the election machine company’s defamation lawsuit against him. During a stream the day after the speech, Jovan Pulitzer said that “President Trump knows what’s up” and his speech “laid on you the truth,” saying, “Now you know what foreign interference is, now you know what it means.” The Arizona Mirror has described Pulitzer as “a favorite of election fraud conspiracy theorists,” noting in 2021 that he “claims to have invented technology that can detect fraudulent ballots by examining the folds in the paper and the markings in various elections.” [Arizona Mirror, 4/30/21; Rumble, 7/17/26]

Discussing Trump’s speech on The Eric Metaxas Show, David Clements said: “It was nice to see the commander-in-chief on TV saying out loud what many of us already know.” Clements also said Trump was “setting the foundation” with his speech and “gauging the reaction of legacy media,” who he described as “co-conspirators” in “sedition and treason.” Lawfare reported in 2024 that Clements had “criss-crossed the country to evangelize about purported election fraud,” and The Washington Post reported in 2022 that he was “traveling the country trying to persuade local leaders to withhold certification of election results.” [Lawfare, 10/31/24; The Washington Post, 9/8/22; Metaxas Media, The Eric Metaxas Show, 7/17/26]

True the Vote’s Catherine Engelbrecht: “Trump stood before the nation from the East Room of the White House and did something no president before him has had the courage to do: he told the American people the truth about the vulnerabilities in our elections.” Engelbrecht, who leads an organization CNN called a “right-wing election conspiracy group,” wrote that Trump had “announced the declassification of intelligence documents pointing to foreign interference, weaknesses in our voting systems, and serious questions about the accuracy of our voter rolls.” She added, “He didn't just speak the truth; he built a permanent, transparent channel to keep telling it. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio said on his WarBoys Studios network that Trump “had specifics. While discussing Trump's speech, Rudy Giuliani claimed, “This Chinese evidence proves that Trump had every right and has every right now to question … that election.” Giuliani pushed false election fraud claims as Trump’s attorney after the 2020 election. Sidney Powell said in response to Trump’s speech, “We must must must go to hand-counted, handwritten, hand-marked paper ballots if we are to have safe and secure elections.” She added, “There is simply no computer on Earth that cannot be hacked or programmed wrong to begin with,” and claimed, “None of our institutions are legitimate right now. Mike Lindell told CNN that the released documents show “we have to get rid of the voting machines.” He also said that “everything he [Trump] said, including China, I have been saying for over five years.” [CNN, 7/16/26]

On Telegram, former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn claimed, “Based on what POTUS presented last night about our corrupt elections, the CIA and NSA directors during his first term should immediately be arrested for treason.” After the 2020 election, Flynn reportedly urged Trump to seize voting machines. Martin Rodil on Patriot Party News: “The president will be forced to declare an emergency if the Congress cannot pass” the SAVE America Act. Following Trump's speech, War Room host and former Trump strategist Steve Bannon called for ICE at polling locations and stated, “I happen to believe we're heading towards a national security emergency about this.” Bannon is “a prominent voice in election conspiracy theories,” according to Politico.
