BRIAN KILMEADE (HOST): Listen to this -- I love this new woman who's -- I think it's Margaret Brennan, so Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation, she does a great job. Really -- she's fair. But listen to this question about the Mueller investigation, and [South Carolina Representative] Trey Gowdy takes the question as fact, and I have no idea why. So, they're talking about the investigation, and this is the first question to Trey Gowdy, who has never talked to President Trump, has been very fair, but he's an incredible lawyer and a great prosecutor with a great eye and ear for the truth. So, listen to this question to him.

[BEGIN AUDIO CLIP]

MARGARET BRENNAN (HOST, FACE THE NATION): The special counsel did reveal this week that Trump campaign official Rick Gates, who is a cooperating witness in that investigation, knowingly had communications on more than one occasion during the campaign with a person the FBI believes had active ties to Russian intelligence. Congressman, as a former prosecutor, what does this say to you?

REP. TREY GOWDY (R-SC): I'm glad we have Bob Mueller. I'm glad we have an independent ball and strike caller. Congress has proven itself incapable of conducting serious investigations. And our best hope for finding --

BRENNAN: You include your own committee, House Intelligence, on that?

GOWDY: Absolutely. Not just House Intelligence, Congressional investigations leak like the gossip girls. I mean, they're terrible.

[END AUDIO CLIP]

KILMEADE: OK. [Inaudible] was might as well have been Russian. So the Ukraine was being led by a Russian sycophant. He was supported by Paul Manafort, where Rick Gates worked. Of course he's going to have a lot of Russian contacts. But are you going to tell me those Russian contacts called Rick Gates in the three months that he was with the Trump Organization, when they became the Trump campaign, when they became the Trump presidency, and that's what turned over the election? Inappropriate contacts, yeah. But you know what? They're his contacts. Those are the ones he's talking to. And if one of your goals is to make things better with Russia, like President Obama's goals was make things better with Iran, and he had contacts and he sent out overtures saying, “if I get elected, I'm going to be look to talk to you guys.” If the president gets elected, he's going to look to deal with Russia and factor them in as allies, not enemies. That's blown up. But there's nothing there. I don't even agree with the premise of that question. Trey Gowdy should have just said, “I don't even know what you're talking about. If that's indeed true, I'm glad Mueller's in charge.”
