  • Wash. Times' Kuhner Smears Obamacare As Facilitator Of Genocide

    Blog ››› ››› SAMANTHA WYATT

KuhnerWashington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner urged Christians to oppose the Affordable Care Act on the false pretext that the law will fund abortions, which he likened to genocide. In reality, taxpayer money will not fund abortion coverage for members of Congress under the Affordable Care Act.

In his October 3 column, Kuhner falsely claimed that "members of Congress and their staff are allowed to now receive U.S. taxpayer funds to get an abortion." He then proceeded to liken abortion to genocide and condemn liberalism as "responsible for more deaths than Nazism or Soviet communism" in the wake of Roe v. Wade:

Christians need to engage in peaceful civil disobedience against President Obama's signature health care law. The reason is simple and macabre: Obamacare enables U.S. taxpayer funds to pay for abortions for members of Congress and their staff. That's right. Pro-life Christians will be forced to subsidize the slaughter of unborn children.

This should come as no surprise. Progressivism is at war with traditional Christianity. Liberals seek to create a society without God. Their goal is personal liberation -- the destruction of the family, Christian culture and all the other social bonds that act as bulwarks against radical individualism. Abortion clinics are liberalism's Gulag Archipelago, death camps scattered across the landscape. For liberals, abortion is key to erecting a society without sexual consequences. If a pregnancy is unwanted, liquidate the baby. Secular progressives believe that nothing -- including innocent human life -- must stand in the way of the sexual revolution. It is genocide masquerading as "choice."

Since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide, more than 50 million unborn babies have been butchered. Hence, abortion has taken more lives than murderous dictators, such as Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin. Liberalism is responsible for more deaths than Nazism or Soviet communism.

Contrary to Kuhner's claim, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) ruled that members of Congress and their staffers purchasing health insurance coverage on the new health insurance exchanges would be able to purchase a plan that includes abortion coverage but only with their own personal contribution to premium costs. No federal funds "will be used to cover abortions or to administer plans that cover abortions." Kuhner, like other right-wing media figures, misrepresented the ruling to falsely accuse President Obama of lying when he promised that no government funds would pay for abortions.

  • Wash. Times' Kuhner: "Anti-White Racism Pervades" The Obama Administration

    Blog ››› ››› MIKE BURNS

Washington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner accused President Obama of deliberately dividing America along racial lines, charging him and his administration with pervasive "anti-white racism."

In his July 26 column, Kuhner wrote that "the racial divide has increased over the past several years" because Obama "has deliberately fanned the flames of racial bitterness and hatred." Kuhner claimed that "[a]nti-white racism pervades" the Obama administration, and called the president's recent remarks on Trayvon Martin, in which he discussed race, "morally revolting." Kuhner also falsely claimed that the Justice Department sent employees to Sanford, the Florida town where Martin was killed, to "foment racial unrest" -- in fact, the Justice Department employees were sent to cool down tensions.

    From Kuhner's column:

Race relations have deteriorated dramatically under President Obama. Both whites and blacks agree: the racial divide has increased over the past several years. The reason is simple. Mr. Obama has deliberately fanned the flames of racial bitterness and hatred.

Anti-white racism pervades his administration. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. has refused to prosecute members of the New Black Panthers for intimidating white voters at a polling booth in Philadelphia. Mr. Holder has ordered the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division not to investigate crimes perpetrated by blacks against white victims. If this is not a racial double standard, then I don't know what is.

Yet, the most pernicious race baiting took place in the wake of George Zimmerman's acquittal. During the anti-Zimmerman protests in 2012, the Justice Department sent liaison officers to Sanford, Fla. Their mission: to aid black activists, such as the Rev. Al Sharpton, to foment racial unrest on behalf of slain black teenager Trayvon Martin. Mr. Zimmerman was rightly found not guilty of killing Trayvon. Instead of respecting the jury's verdict, Mr. Obama personally interjected himself into the case.

Mr. Obama claimed that he "could have been" Trayvon 35 years ago. Moreover, at a hastily convened news conference, the president wallowed in self-pity, decrying that he had been "profiled" as a young black man in department stores and elevators. In short, Mr. Obama portrayed himself as a long-standing victim of white bigotry.

The spectacle was not only politically perverse, but morally revolting.

Kuhner has long used his Washington Times column to launch race-baiting attacks on the president and his administration, including claiming that Obama "has unleashed class hatred and racial hostility" and accusing him of harboring "black nationalist sympathies."

  • Wash. Times' Kuhner: LGBT Movement Waging War On Human Nature

    Blog ››› ››› LUKE BRINKER

Washington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner took time out of his Fourth of July weekend to condemn the LGBT movement for its "war on religion and, ultimately, human nature itself."

In a July 5 column, Kuhner cited a litany of grievances against "the homosexual lifestyle," which, he lamented, is no longer "considered a moral abomination." LGBT activists, he charged, seek nothing less than the wholesale destruction of flag, faith, and family.

Kuhner erupted at pop singer Lady Gaga over her recent performance at New York City's Gay Pride festivities, where she concluded the national anthem by hailing the "land of the free and the home of the gay." Kuhner - whose history of anti-gay animus includes calling openly lesbian Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) "Barney Frank in a dress" - judged the inclusion of "gay" an unforgivable crime. Lady Gaga, he declared, "defame[d] the national anthem, insulting everyone who has ever fought or died for our country."

  • Wash. Times' Kuhner Claims Obama, Clinton Are Complicit in Benghazi Deaths

    Blog ››› ››› THOMAS BISHOP

Washington Times columnist Jeffery Kuhner accused President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of abusing their power which to the death of four Americans in Benghazi.

In his May 10 column, Kuhner claimed that Obama was "engaged in the systematic abuse of power" in his handling of the September 11, 2012, terror attack in Benghazi. He also claimed that Clinton sent Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens "on a suicide mission," while Obama failed to send help to Libya, leading to the deaths of two others. From The Washington Times:

  • Wash. Times Columnist Calls For Obama Impeachment Over Boston Marathon Bombings

    Blog ››› ››› MIKE BURNS

Washington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner called for President Obama's impeachment over the Boston Marathon bombings, accusing the president of being "unwilling" to keep Americans safe.

In his April 26 Washington Times column, Kuhner wrote that Obama "has been unable -- even unwilling -- to keep us safe" from terror attacks, including the bombings in Boston, because "[h]e refuses to acknowledge that we are in a war with radical Islam." Kuhner added: "It's time he is held responsible for his gross negligence. It's time that he be impeached. Justice demands no less."

Kuhner's call to impeach the president comes a week after Fox News host Brian Kilmeade blamed Obama's Middle East policy for the bombings.

    From Kuhner's column:

Under Mr. Obama's watch, Islamic terrorists have targeted the United States repeatedly -- the underwear bomber, the Fort Hood shooting, the killing of an Army recruiter in Arkansas, the consulate in Benghazi and now Boston. The president has been unable -- even unwilling -- to keep us safe. The reason is simple: He refuses to acknowledge that we are in a war with radical Islam. The Boston bombings were not the acts of criminals. They were an act of war against Americans. The commander in chief has the duty to not only defend America, but to identity and denounce the enemy. In short, he must fight back.

The Boston massacre was a defining moment. It exposed Mr. Obama's narcissistic and reckless approach to combating terror. There can be no illusions any longer -- we are in a clash of civilizations between radical Islam and the West. Mr. Obama has denied this painful reality long enough. By burying his head in the ideological sands, he has made Americans pay a terrible price. It's time he is held responsible for his gross negligence. It's time that he be impeached. Justice demands no less.

Kuhner has repeatedly pushed for Obama's impeachment. In March 2011, Kuhner argued that Obama should be impeached over his handling of the military intervention in Libya, and in March 2010, Kuhner called for Obama to be impeached if he signed a health care reform bill passed via a legislative procedure known as a "self-executing rule."

  • Wash. Times Publishes More Unhinged Attacks On Obama's Faith

    Blog ››› ››› ADAM SHAH

The Washington Times continued its long-running attack on President Obama's faith by publishing and op-ed and a column accusing Obama of "secular fanaticism" and "anti-Christian bigotry."

The op-ed by Liberty Counsel Action vice president Matt Barber and the column by Jeffrey Kuhner both pushed the falsehood that Obama is attacking people of faith because of an administration policy that ensures that women have access to insurance coverage for birth control while accommodating employers who object to providing birth control. Kuhner claimed: "The mandate is an unprecedented assault upon the Catholic Church's conscience rights and religious freedom, blatantly usurping the First Amendment." In fact, the administration's policy has widespread support from the American public, Catholics, and among many religious institutions.

Kuhner's and Barber's falsehoods were couched in extreme rhetoric such as Kuhner claiming that Obama wants to make himself the head of the Catholic Church:

Mr. Obama is waging an ideological war against the Catholic Church. His mandate is essentially telling the church that it can no longer follow its central teachings on abortion, contraception and sterilization - or else it risks massive fines. Mr. Obama seeks to make himself, not Pope Benedict XVI, the head of the Roman Catholic Church. He is behaving like an ancient Roman emperor. He is claiming the state can impose its pagan morality upon the church's institutions. We are sliding back to third-century Rome.

Barber, meanwhile, wrote that "any Christian who votes for Mr. Obama will get to take that up with God" and endorsed Mitt Romney for president because Christians "won't survive" a second Obama term.

  • Wash. Times' Kuhner: Obama "Degrades The Country He Leads"

Blog ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF

In a November 18 Washington Times column, Jeffrey Kuhner claimed that President Obama "regularly expresses his contempt for America" and that he "degrades the country he leads." Kuhner further claimed that Obama is a "typical liberal" who "believes America is fundamentally flawed, wicked and in irreversible decline." From Kuhner's column, headlined, "Obama's Denigrate America tour":

President Obama regularly expresses his contempt for America. The latest example was his comment at a business forum in Hawaii where he complained that "we've been a little bit lazy over the last couple of decades." In particular, he meant Americans supposedly have been lax in pursuing foreign investment because "we aren't out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America." This degrades the country he leads.

Mr. Obama is a typical liberal. He believes America is fundamentally flawed, wicked and in irreversible decline. Like most on the radical left, he has been profoundly disappointed by America, especially over the past several decades. The Soviet Union - the vanguard of socialist revolution - was tossed onto the ash heap of history. The great enemy, capitalism, emerged triumphant.

  • Wash. Times' Kuhner Latest To Defend Cain With Race-Baiting

Blog ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF

Last weekend, Politico reported that Herman Cain allegedly engaged in "sexually suggestive behavior" toward female colleagues while he was president of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. The right-wing media quickly resorted to race-baiting to defend Cain from the allegations, calling the report "high-tech lynching."

On Friday, Washington Times columnist Jeffrey Kuhner continued this line of defense for Cain, claiming that he is "being politically lynched by liberals in the media. All that's missing is the noose and the tree":

Liberals are determined to destroy Herman Cain. The Republican presidential candidate is tied or ahead of the presumptive front-runner, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. He has been run- ning an anti-establishment, insurgent campaign that champions sweeping tax reform and a pro-growth agenda. He is a Southern populist who touts his private-sector experience. He also is an authentic black conservative. For this, he is being politically lynched by liberals in the media. All that's missing is the noose and the tree.

It started several weeks ago. Bill Maher, along with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and Thomas Friedman, a columnist at the New York Times, mocked Mr. Cain on HBO for being "too dumb" and "stupid" to be taken seriously. MSNBC host Martin Bashr, a virulent British leftist, asked on his program whether Mr. Cain even knows "how to spell Iraq." Mr. Cain has indeed made mistakes on the campaign trail, such as stumbling on abortion and failing so far to articulate a coherent foreign policy. Yet he is a successful businessman, who also had a popular radio talk show and writes a syndicated column. He certainly is not stupid. The left is deliberately promoting a vicious racist smear: The black man has nothing between his ears.

The latest assault, however, is the allegation that Mr. Cain sexually harassed two female employees while he was president of the National Restaurant Association (NRA) during the 1990s. The story was first published in Politico, a left-leaning news website. Politico claimed that Mr. Cain was accused of engaging in "sexually suggestive behavior" that made the women feel "uncomfortable" or "awkward." The story said the NRA reached a separation agreement with the women and that one accepted a "five-figure" settlement. Both signed a confidentiality clause. Hence, the women remain anonymous, and the exact nature of the alleged harassment is still murky. Apparently, a third woman has come forward anonymously as well. The media report that one of the complaints accused Mr. Cain of inviting a female subordinate at an event-sponsored conference to go up to his "corporate suite." So far, there is no conclusive proof that he sexually harassed his subordinates. Yet the Politico story has cast a cloud of suspicion over Mr. Cain's candidacy.

  • Kuhner: Obama Wants A "Centralized Command-And-Control System" Like "Fascist Leader Benito Mussolini"

Blog ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF

In his September 22 Washington Times column, Jeffrey Kuhner claimed Obama is "facing an internal revolt" because "he has not dismantled corporate power" but instead is creating a government modeled after "President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini." From The Washington Times:

It is not just conservatives who are angry with Mr. Obama. Radicals are also seething. They view him as shallow and inept. After once deifying him as the liberal messiah, they feel betrayed - by both his incompetence and his deviations from socialist priorities.

In their eyes, Mr. Obama has abandoned key leftist causes. He extended the George W. Bush-era tax cuts. He agreed to leave the public option out of his massive health care overhaul. He has backed away (for now) from pushing "cap-and-trade" legislation. He failed to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. And he has not dismantled corporate power; rather, through huge bailouts and the acceptance of lucrative campaign donations, Mr. Obama has developed a cozy relationship with Wall Street. He talks like a class-warfare populist, but he governs like a liberal corporatist.

His model is not George McGovern or even Jimmy Carter but President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini. Mr. Obama's goal is to erect a corporatist state. He seeks to fuse big government, big business and big labor under a centralized command-and-control system.

Kuhner: Obama "Injecting The Heroin Of Class Warfare And Socialism Into" America Will Lead To "Insanity And Death"

Wash. Times' Kuhner: Obama Has "Black Nationalist Sympathies"

Wash. Times' Kuhner: "Like many on the progressive left, Mr. Obama is an anti-American political thug"

  • Kuhner: Obama "Injecting The Heroin Of Class Warfare And Socialism Into" America Will Lead To "Insanity And Death"

Blog ››› ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF

In a September 8 Washington Times column, Jeffrey Kuhner claimed that President Obama is a "reckless ideologue masquerading as a pragmatist" and is "injecting the heroin of class warfare and socialism into our national bloodstream" which will lead to "insanity and death." From the Washington Times:

President Obama is politically insane. This is the real meaning of his speech Thursday night in front of a joint session of Congress. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. By that definition, Mr. Obama is a lunatic leftist.

Much of his speech called for more of the same - government activism; massive spending on infrastructure, bridges and roads; extending the payroll tax cut; and more public aid to states and municipalities. In short, he seeks to perpetuate the dismal policies of Obamanomics. He is a reckless ideologue masquerading as a pragmatist.

Mr. Obama is a man of the hard left. He deeply loathes everything America stands for - capitalism, limited government, individual freedom and Christian civilization. In particular, he despises our exceptionalism. His stated goal is to create a "post-American world" where the United States is simply one of many countries - no bigger, better or stronger. He exhibits a form of madness, a self-loathing, reminiscent of the late pop singer Amy Winehouse. Mr. Obama keeps injecting the heroin of class warfare and socialism into our national bloodstream. And he can continue to play on the biggest stage and boast a huge audience. In the end, however, it leads to the same result: insanity and death.

The column also featured Obama's face photoshopped on to recently deceased singer Amy Winehouse's body, with a sickle-and-hammer tattoo added to her body:

    ››› ››› DAVID SHERE

Conservative pundits have attributed economic growth and job creation in Texas to the success of conservative policies like low taxes and small government. But government has played a significant role in Texas' recent economic record: Federal spending helped balance the state budget, and strict regulation helped shield it from the housing bubble.

  • Right-Wing Media Freak Out About Contraception Recommendation

    ››› ››› JUSTIN BERRIER

The right-wing media responded with outrage after the nonpartisan Institute of Medicine released a recommendation that all health insurance plans should cover contraception without cost to the consumer. But health experts agree with the Institute of Medicine's analysis that universal contraception coverage "support[s] women's optimal health."
