CALLER: I'm wondering I'm just this is off topic, and Megyn never talked about it, but this Russian oligarch that paid for Don Junior's son.
EMILY JASHINSKY (HOST): Oh, yeah.
CALLER: I don't know. It seems weird that there's just — the silence is deafening. If Bill Clinton would have done this, I would have been outraged. And we hear nothing.
JASHINSKY: Interesting, yeah, interesting. And did you read the ProPublica report? It's — it is really wild.
CALLER: No. I didn't. I've heard it — just flashes of it on, I think, my news feed. I didn't read any reports on it. I thought Megyn would talk about it, but she never mentioned it.
JASHINSKY: It's an interesting one. Yeah, thanks for the call, George. So this was — it is getting covered in places like, you know, New York Times, Washington Post. ProPublica broke the story that a Russian oligarch connected with a Russian boxing league, apparently covered the cost of Don Jr.'s recent wedding.
Now Don Jr. is saying they met through kind of a mutual interest in boxing and in hunting and that sort of thing, and they're genuinely friends. ProPublica had guests at this very small wedding talking to them saying everybody was like why are there a bunch of Russians here? And I think probably the reason the response on the right has been a bit muted so far is that we saw a lot of stories like this from places like ProPublica from 2015 on that turned out to be missing important pieces of context.
And so the ProPublica report looks very comprehensive to me. Having read it, it looks very comprehensive to me. It looks like a clear conflict of interest. The entire Trump organization, from my perspective, is being run as a conflict of interest. You know, they have — they're building resort in the UAE right now, the Trump organization, where you have Trump's two sons. Donald Trump Jr. is on the boards — or is an adviser, I should say, to Polymarket and Kalshi as this administration is overseeing whether or not they should be regulated and how they should be regulated.
I mean, all of these are kind of glaring conflicts of interest. I think a lot of people heard when Trump said, “I know the system, I alone can fix it" in 2015/16. They said, yeah, these conflicts of interest might exist. They're much less of a priority to me than fixing the country, and I'm sure a lot of you feel that way. I'm curious.
...
But, but corruption is corruption. And if it's something you're concerned about with Hunter Biden, then it should be something we're concerned about across the board. But I think so far, people are kind of waiting to see if there's more information that comes out, to kind of contextualize it. That's my best response so far. I do think it's an interesting question.
