• Media Matters named Solomon the 2019 Misinformer of the Year for his record of stretching facts in his stories to fit broader pro-MAGA agendas. Solomon became a key figure working alongside Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani to dig up dirt on Joe Biden related to Ukraine and to discredit investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Solomon laundered Giuliani’s conspiracy theories in his columns published by The Hill; the publication later found that “Solomon failed to identify important details about key Ukrainian sources, including the fact that they had been indicted or were under investigation. In other cases, the sources were his own attorneys.” In 2019, ProPublica wrote that Solomon’s work was “the starting gun that eventually set off the impeachment inquiry into the president.” A 2012 profile by the Columbia Journalism Review said that Solomon “has a history of bending the truth to his storyline. • Solomon — host of Just the News No Noise and John Solomon Reports — has temporarily stepped aside as editor-in-chief of Just The News and is now working for the Trump administration as a “special government employee” on a White House “task force to investigate elements of the 2020 election.” NBC News reported that Solomon’s task force “is gathering thousands of pages of documents from U.S. intelligence agencies, with plans to declassify some of them, which would give President Donald Trump an opportunity to amplify new accusations about past elections. … The group has been charged with gathering information from federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including related to the 2020 presidential election, signs of ballot irregularities, potential voting machine issues and possibly beyond.” Another report said that Solomon “has requested access to files related to an analysis that dissented from a U.S. intelligence assessment in 2021 ​that found no indications ⁠that a foreign actor had tried or succeeded in altering ‘any technical aspect’ of the 2020 vote.” In describing his unpaid role at the White House, Solomon said he will be releasing “some documents, some secrets and things you should know about when it comes to weaponization, election integrity, other things.” [Just the News, Just the News No Noise, 6/18/26; The New York Times, 5/29/26; Reuters, 7/13/26; NBC News, 6/30/26; Media Matters, 6/4/26, 7/6/26, 7/2/26]
• Trump is preparing to deliver a prime-time speech on July 16 reportedly focusing on “voting machine security and alleged efforts by foreign nations to influence U.S. elections,” including “allegations that Beijing compromised U.S. voter data and evidence the CIA knew about the action and didn't share that information with Mr. Trump during his first term.” According to NPR, the address may be used to “amplify election lies before an audience of millions in an effort to boost Republican prospects before midterms that threaten to hobble Trump for the remainder of his term.” MS NOW reporting also noted that the speech comes after efforts by Pulte and Solomon to declassify documents in their new White House roles. • The Brennan Center for Justice: “Experts agree that there is no evidence of foreign interference” in the 2020 election. The Brennan Center has noted that “influence and interference are not the same, but President Trump and his supporters conflate the two concepts when raising the specter of foreign meddling in U.S. elections.” In reality, “the only confirmed instance of election interference was in 2016, when Russia’s intelligence agencies hacked into election board infrastructure, including registration databases,” and investigations have found “no evidence of interference in the 2020 federal elections.” Additionally, “the Intelligence Community’s last report on the 2024 elections stressed that although foreign actors remained intent on using influence to undermine U.S. democracy, it had not uncovered any acts of interference.” As MS NOW also reported, there were “extensive reviews by the U.S. intelligence community under both the Trump and Biden administrations” and they “found no credible evidence calling the 2020 election into question.” [Brennan Center for Justice, 3/27/26; MS NOW, 7/14/26]
• Solomon’s appointment to the White House task force and Trump's upcoming prime-time address about election security come as Trump attempts to change voting processes before the upcoming midterms under the guise of “election integrity.” Trump has been promoting the SAVE America Act (previously the SAVE Act), which experts say would create new barriers for voters and potentially disenfranchise millions of Americans — an analysis by the Brennan Center for Justice says it “would be the most restrictive voting bill ever passed by Congress” — as he calls for the GOP to “nationalize the voting” and rails against voting by mail. For months, pro-Trump election deniers and prominent right-wing media figures such as Steve Bannon have been urging Trump to declare a national emergency ahead of the midterms to “justify dictating new rules to state and local governments” related to voting and elections. • Solomon published an article in March suggesting China interfered in the 2020 U.S. election by accessing voter registration data. He wrote: “Voter registration data is not the same as ballots, where Americans choose their candidates. But it contains sensitive personally identifying information, including driver's license data and partial Social Security numbers. The data is considered so sensitive that several Democrat states are currently trying to keep the Trump Justice Department from obtaining it and liberal groups claim it is a holy grail of election integrity.” Solomon added, “In the hands of a foreign power, such data could be used to mimic social personas designed to influence elections or to make absentee ballot requests to cast fake votes, something the FBI feared China might be doing during the 2020 election, according to recently declassified documents.” [Just The News, 3/16/26]
• Solomon repeated the claims on his show John Solomon Reports, where he said “China clearly had access to voter registration data, much like they did in Great Britain. It was kept secret by the intelligence community, according to its own ombudsman.” He added that there “may be some serious issues in the elections that were kept from us.” [Just the News, John Solomon Reports, 3/24/26]
• Solomon said on his other show that “you now have proof that the deep state” hid information about China accessing voter registration data because it “did not want to further the president’s policies.” [Real America's Voice, Just the News No Noise, 3/18/26]
• In an April article for Just the News that repeated claims of 2020 election interference by China, Solomon wrote, “Memo newly declassified by DNI Gabbard shows concerns about integrity of American voting were far greater than the public was told by previous administrations.” The article explained: “Though officials say that an ongoing second Trump administration investigation has found no evidence yet that vote-counting machines were directly compromised in the 2020 election, the memo shows how such machines could be vulnerable to intrusions in the future and made clear that the voter registration databases that were breached by China and Iran were easy targets.” [Just the News, 4/20/26]

• On War Room, Solomon said “we have now learned six years too late” that Americans in 2020 were “force-fed a fake story that it was the most secure election in American history.” He reiterated that “China had infiltrated voter registration data in numerous states,” suggesting “that could have a profound effect on senators who thus far have been kicking the can down the road on the SAVE America Act. … It might change your notion about adding more election security measures to the 2026 election.” [Real America's Voice, War Room, 5/13/26]

• Solomon suggested that China had plotted to submit fake ballots in 2020 “to swing the election to Joe Biden.” Solomon said that China “reached more than a dozen states' voter registration databases,” then “sent tens of thousands of fake driver’s licenses to the United States in the summer of 2020” with the goal of voting “in the names of Americans and try[ing] to swing the election to Joe Biden.” [The First, I’m Right with Jesse Kelly, 4/22/26]
• Discussing his reporting on Fox News, Solomon claimed China was “hacking in and getting data from our voter registration databases, doing some early influence campaigns, maybe sending some driver’s licenses that could be used to file fake ballot registrations.” [Fox News, Hannity, 3/19/26]
• Solomon connected claims that China accessed U.S. voter registration data to a plot to fake driver's licenses to the U.S. to interfere with the 2020 election. Solomon explained, “Voter data is accessed by Chinese intelligence. Then China sends driver's licenses to Chicago O'Hare airport and the FBI’s Chinese intelligence sources tell them it was an effort to send those licenses here so someone could file fake ballot requests and vote and stuff the ballot box for Joe Biden.” The claim that fake drivers' licenses seized at Chicago O’Hare International Airport were connected to voter fraud was previously debunked; Reuters wrote in 2020 that the licenses “had no apparent connection to Democratic Party registration or the upcoming election.” [Real America’s Voice, The Charlie Kirk Show, 3/19/26; Reuters, 9/10/20]

• Solomon said on the Stephen Gardner Show that “at our request here at Just the News,” Gabbard had declassified “documents showing that China had infiltrated at least a dozen and as many as 18 states’ voter registration databases. Once you have a state’s voter registration data, you have the holy grail of being able to manipulate elections.” He also stated: “We now know that there were people who voted illegally, rules were changed without legislatures’ approval. • On The Glenn Beck Program, Solomon claimed, “It is pretty clear that China either has a preference with the Democratic Party or some sort of alliance with the Democratic Party, based on what the FBI wrote.” Solomon cited a June 2025 article he wrote for Just the News reporting that Trump FBI Director Kash Patel had “turned over to Congress an intelligence report raising concerns that China had mass-produced fake U.S. driver's licenses to carry out a scheme to hijack the 2020 election with fake mail-in ballots for Democrat Joe Biden.” The article went on to note that “the newly declassified intelligence reports from August 2020 weren’t corroborated or fully investigated.” [TheBlaze, The Glenn Beck Program, 3/23/26; Just the News, 6/16/25]
• On Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, Solomon claimed that the Biden administration “knew our voter registration data was breached, that it had been accessed by China,” and said that keeping it secret was “a real disservice to the American public.” Solomon also claimed, “There are scores of raw intelligence reports that show Chinese meddling in the American election, and there’s one report raising concern that Ukraine was engaged in a plot to do something bad in the 2024 election to help Joe Biden.” [Real America’s Voice, War Room, 3/17/26]

• Solomon claimed that “for the first time, there’s evidence that the Democratic Party might have been working with foreign powers to have them intervene in our elections.” [Real America's Voice, War Room, 3/26/26]
• On The Sean Hannity Show, Solomon claimed that “our own intelligence community harbored its own deep dark secret” since 2020 that China had “gained access to U.S. voter registration data in America.” Solomon added, “There are several blue states trying to block Trump's Justice Department from reviewing that data to make sure we don't have illegal aliens or noncitizens on the voter rolls. So it’s so sensitive we don’t trust our own government, but it turns out China penetrated it in America and for the last six years we’ve all been kept in the dark.” [Premiere Radio Network, The Sean Hannity Show, 3/19/26]

• Discussing his reporting on War Room, Solomon said the federal government needs to engage in “hand-to-hand combat that would win the SAVE Act” and argued, “We still need voter ID.” Solomon also said that administration officials should “call the senators one-by-one and say here’s what we found in your state. … You can have a briefing senator-by-senator saying sir, in your state China accessed your voter data registration. In your state, thus far we found x number of noncitizens who made it through your state’s very good system, which means we still need voter ID to prevent this.” [Real America's Voice, War Room, 3/23/26]
• Solomon also encouraged the White House to “have a briefing in the White House press room” and “walk the press through the evidence” after Bannon suggested that there has been “no urgency” on the Save America Act. Solomon's task force appointment appears to be part of broader efforts by the Trump administration and right-wing media to undermine the midterm elections.

In recent months, Trump and his right-wing media allies have advocated for the SAVE America Act and other policies which experts warn would create voting restrictions and barriers that “would stop millions of American citizens from voting.”

Meanwhile, right-wing media and election deniers have boosted and intensified conspiracy theories and narratives about foreign interference in the 2020 election, as the Trump administration also uses its levers of power to reinvigorate old claims that have been previously investigated and debunked.

Finally, former Trump strategist Steve Bannon has suggested both Solomon's task force and Trump's prime-time address could serve as a “predicate” for the president to issue a “national security emergency executive order” — part of a plan that right-wing election deniers have cheered for Trump to give himself supposedly “king-like powers” over the midterms.
