While local media cover the impacts of rising gas prices, Fox personalities minimize Americans' pain at the pump

The Trump administration’s war with Iran has caused oil prices to skyrocket, and while local outlets have been explaining the impact on everyday Americans, Fox News has downplayed the pain.

The national average for a gallon of gas was  $4.42 as of May 4, rising nearly 40 cents in the prior week alone, and a gallon of diesel was averaging $5.62. Experts warn that the longer the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the higher prices will climb

Local news outlets have covered the pain at the pump, highlighting how rising fuel costs are impacting local schoolsrideshare drivers, and the trucking industry, among other things. Some stations talked to Americans who are having to cut back on travel, entertainment, and even groceries.

Meanwhile, Fox News personalities have said rising prices are “no big deal” and reminded their audience that oil companies in the U.S. “are actually benefiting from this.”
