Jake Tapper fact checks Trump's fearmongering about migrant caravan: “The president's spreading falsehoods in rapid fashion”

Tapper: “Fear of undocumented immigrants is the president's go-to rallying cry”

From the October 22 edition of CNN's The Lead with Jake Tapper:

JAKE TAPPER (HOST): The president's spreading falsehoods in rapid fashion, moments ago speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn, cleaning up some comments but going all in on others, such as his suggestion that Middle Easterners are using the migrant caravan, currently travelling north through Mexico, to get into the United States.

The Pentagon says it has not been tasked to provide any additional support on the southern border, despite the president's claim there. And the president has offered zero proof that quote 'criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are in this caravan.' But fear of undocumented immigrants is the president's go-to rallying cry, one of the issues he's convinced got him elected in 2016 and as polls show toss-ups in dozens of key races across the country, the president is betting once again that it will energize his voters, even if what he's telling them is a lie.
