Right-wing media are using the Lindsay Clancy case to spread misogynistic attacks on women’s rights
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh: “Why would we ever entrust a woman to do anything — run a business, lead a country, treat patients?”

Right-wing media are using the Lindsay Clancy case to advance a misogynistic agenda arguing that women deserve fewer rights.
In a highly publicized case in Massachusetts, Clancy admitted to killing her three young children and then attempting to kill herself in 2023. The 36-year-old pleaded not guilty, with her defense arguing she should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings. Clancy’s trial sparked fierce debate in the court of public opinion, on social media, and within the jury; the case resulted in a mistrial on September 4.
Right-wing media have seized on the public attention garnered by Clancy’s case to argue that women in general are unstable and shouldn't have the right to vote, hold office, or sit on a jury. Some figures on the right have also blamed “abortion culture” for Clancy's actions, saying abortion supports women “murdering their own children” and “now the kids are out of the body, they're also killing them.”
-
Journalist Moira Donegan explained this dynamic in The Guardian:
Some mothers have expressed deep sympathy for Clancy’s postpartum mental health crises, citing resonances with their own experiences and a hope that the case can bring greater attention to the rare but acute and debilitating kind of postpartum mental suffering that Clancy seems to have experienced; others say that medical neglect of the condition, and of the experiences of postpartum women more broadly, create the conditions for tragedies like that of the Clancy family.
Some on the misogynist right, meanwhile, have seized upon Clancy’s actions and the support she has received as evidence that women are congenitally evil, disposed to violence, untrustworthy and unfit for public life.
The Washington Examiner went so far as to say the case is “becoming a touchpoint in the debate surrounding the dangers of feminism.” Attacks on the jury in Clancy’s trial have also proliferated, with MAGA podcaster Benny Johnson calling the women jurors “absolute psychotic bird lady wine mom true crime demons.”

Right-wing media claimed the case highlights that women “cannot control themselves” and questioned whether women should have the right to vote or hold positions of power
-
- Christian nationalist pastor Dale Partridge, who has long argued that women should not vote, wrote, “If it takes a Clancy mistrial for the world to see that women are not fit to: Rule, lead, judge, or vote then so be it.” He continued, “Feminism must be revealed for the evil that it is, and this is powerful evidence.” [Instagram, 9/3/36; People For the American Way, 1/12/26; The New York Times, 4/2/26]
- Discussing Clancy’s case on The Benny Show, Daily Wire podcaster Matt Walsh said that the “obvious conclusion is well these are people that can't be in power and probably shouldn't have the right to vote.” Host Benny Johnson asked if any violation of law is “excusable because of hormones they can't control, what does that mean when it comes to women holding power in our society? Why would you ever give women the nuclear codes if a bad afternoon or intrusive thoughts could mean nuclear winter?” Walsh responded, “Yeah, well, that would seem to be the obvious conclusion. … And if it is true that any woman can be that volatile and that unstable and murderous then, yeah, I mean, the obvious conclusion is, well, these are people that can't be in power, probably shouldn't have the right to vote.” [YouTube, The Benny Show, 9/8/26]
- On his own show, Walsh argued that if women “simply cannot control themselves and therefore should suffer no consequences whatsoever,” then “why would we ever entrust a woman to do anything — run a business, lead a country, treat patients?” He continued, “What's to stop the first female president from launching all of our nuclear warheads in a moment of postpartum psychosis? If something like that happens, who are we to judge? She couldn't control herself. She was struggling. Men wouldn't understand. So the feminists defending Lindsay Clancy are, by their own arguments — these are their arguments — they're making the strongest case for the patriarchy that anyone could ever make.” [The Daily Wire, The Matt Walsh Show, 9/1/26]
- Discussing Clancy’s supporters, white nationalist Nick Fuentes said, “Women should not be on juries. They shouldn't be on courts.” He also encouraged “all men” to “give your woman the Lindsay Clancy test.” He continued, “And if she is in any way sympathetic to Lindsay Clancy, like, we’ve got to put these people on notice. Honestly, I don't even distinguish — it's like, if half the female population is going to fail the test, I don't want a woman on the jury. I don't want – women should not be on juries. Women should not be on juries. They shouldn't be on courts. That’s how it’s going to be.” [Rumble, America First With Nick Fuentes, 9/1/26]
- Host of the Reformation Red Pill podcast Joshua Haymes asked, “Do you see why maybe our Founding Fathers wanted to limit suffrage to people who were qualified,” while talking about the Clancy case. He said, “Increasingly, I just — I understand the Founding Fathers, how they were very, very skeptical and pessimistic toward the idea of raw democracy, the idea of universal suffrage. They didn't think it was a good idea. And they were right. They were obviously right. When you've got women who are deciding who's guilty and not guilty, not on the evidence, but on Zodiac signs — that person is allowed to help determine the future of our country. Do you see the problem here? Do you see why maybe our Founding Fathers wanted to limit suffrage to people who were qualified, right? People who had proven themself responsible enough to at least acquire land and be heads of their household.” [YouTube, Reformation Red Pill, 8/25/26]
- On Timcast IRL, conservative podcaster Nick Freitas said “women don't understand what a catalyst moment” the Clancy case is because “you could look back in 20 years and be like, oh, this is where we lost the right to vote.” He continued, “Because the bottom line is as women become more tribal, men are becoming more tribal. And bad news — our tribe doesn't need you to secure our rights. You need us to help you secure yours. And people are like, oh, Nick Freitas is advocating — no, I'm not advocating it. I'm telling you: You get tribal to this degree, where not only can you kill our kids in the womb through all nine months of pregnancy, but now you can strangle them on the outside and you're the one that gets sympathy and the husband is to blame? That's where you move men into the screw you phase of the exercise.” [YouTube, Timcast IRL, 8/24/26]
- Right-wing podcaster Emily Wilson said “there is legitimately going to be movement” to “repeal the 19th [Amendment]” because “women have demonstrated they are not capable of controlling themselves or emotions, and they are a danger to themself and others.” Wilson added that repealing the constitutional amendment recognizing women’s right to vote “will never happen,” but “I wish it would.” She then doubled down, saying that “a woman president is a fucking joke,” and suggesting Clancy’s case proves “we should not have women in positions of power anymore.” [Instagram, 9/3/26; Instagram, 9/3/26]
- The Federalist published an op-ed titled “Lindsay Clancy Truthers Are The Best Argument For Repealing The 19th Amendment,” which claimed the case “has become a more convincing PR campaign against women’s suffrage than anything you could find in the most obscure corners of the manosphere.” Author Rebeka Zeljko wrote, “As reductive as the argument stating that ‘women are just too emotional’ may be, hysterical Lindsay Clancy fangirls are making that exact case. By insisting that Clancy represents all women, they’re arguing that it’s not just Clancy who is unable to regulate her emotions, but all of us. It’s not just Clancy who is capable of killing her children; it’s all women.” [The Federalist, 8/31/26]
- SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly said mothers who are “struggling” have “added” Clancy’s killings “to the menu of coping.” Discussing another case in which a woman allegedly killed her child, Kelly said this “new idea of how to manage a challenging child has been introduced by this sick case of Lindsay Clancy. And mothers out there who are struggling, who before wouldn't have even considered this, have now added it to the menu of coping. It's just very, very dark, and we're going down a dark path.” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show, 9/8/26]

Right-wing media blamed “abortion culture” for normalizing “a mother killing her own child”
-
- The Daily Wire's Michael Knowles said that “half of American women overtly defend infanticide.” He said, “Half of women in this country go to the ballot box, go on television, go to political rallies holding signs specifically to defend murdering their own children. You remember that? We called it abortion. Now that we use euphemisms like women's rights. The fact that women's rights is now a euphemism that refers exclusively to killing your own kids should mean that we are not surprised by this.” [The Daily Wire, The Michael Knowles Show, 8/18/26]
- Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins wrote, “When a nation decides for fifty+ years that a mother killing her own child can be reframed as a difficult choice, a health care decision, a matter between her and her doctor…that logic does not politely stay inside the clinic walls.” Hawkins argued, “If you can’t get a conviction here, you cannot get one for abortion.” [Substack, The Pro-Life War Room, 9/2/26]
- White nationalist Nick Fuentes said, “Hey, this is the feminist society that everybody wanted. Abortion up until nine months.” He continued, “Hey, you're feeling you're feeling broken up about your pregnancy? Yeah. Kill the kids. Whatever. It's — that's as bad as it gets. So this is a call to action for the men. Wake the fuck up.” [Rumble, America First With Nick Fuentes, 9/1/26]
- While comparing the Clancy case to abortion, conservative Christian podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey said, “Actually, we are basically back to the pagan justifications for murder.” Her guest, Charlie Kirk's mentor Frank Turek, said that some women on the jury probably have had abortions, “And they may have felt this idea that how can I judge this woman for killing her children when I killed my own? I want to acquit her because of extenuating circumstances — after all, I had extenuating circumstances in my pregnancy, and I felt it was justified to kill my children, so — I mean, that could be part of this, the psychology of this.” [Blaze Media, Relatable With Allie Beth Stuckey, 9/11/26; Fox News, 9/6/26]
- Discussing support for Clancy, right-wing podcaster Emily Wilson said, “Like we've got to the point where women are having abortions and murdering millions of babies and then they're having abortions up to eight or nine months. And now the kids are out of the body, they're also killing them.” She continued, “And we're also just not holding them to the same standards — hey, equal rights, you guys want to be treated like men in society? OK, so give the death penalty. I don’t even like — I want these women tortured to death, if it was up to me.” [Instagram, 9/3/26]
- Newsmax host Rob Finnerty said, “Killing your baby into the ninth month is now legal in Massachusetts, which is interesting because Lindsay Clancy killed her baby who was just eight months older than that.” He continued, “The same women standing behind [Massachusetts Gov.] Maura Healey are standing behind Lindsay Clancy tonight.” [Newsmax, Finnerty, 9/2/26]
- Discussing a recent Massachusetts abortion law, SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly asked if there is “such a difference between killing … basically in the birth canal versus killing when you have an eight-month[-old] there, like little Callan Clancy?” [SiriusXM, The Megyn Kelly Show, 9/8/26]
- Benny Johnson said women are supporting Clancy because they have “blood guilt” for the abortions they have had. He said, “A bee hive, true crime, wine mom mass formation psychosis that I personally believe is entirely predicated on these women wishing to cast their guilt … for murdering their own children. How many of these women have had abortions? Well, a fourth of American women have had abortions. That's innocent blood that you don't get to wash off. And I think that the projection that is happening right now with the Lindsay Clancy trial is exactly that, blood guilt for women that wish to make Lindsay Clancy innocent because that means they will be innocent — not in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of the law.” [YouTube, The Benny Show, 9/8/26]
- Live Action President Lila Rose said Clancy’s children aren't being remembered because we are a “pro-abortion society” where “a million children are killed in the name of women’s rights every single year.” [The Daily Wire, The Ben Shapiro Show, 8/26/26]
- The Daily Wire's Isabel Brown said the support for Clancy is “a spillover from abortion culture in our society.” She continued, “We have normalized the destruction of innocent babies' lives by the tune of millions upon millions of them every year, that it's obvious that eventually that's going to extend beyond a baby that you can't physically see with your own two eyes in the womb to a baby that's in front of you.” [The Daily Wire, The Michael Knowles Show, 8/19/26]
- Spanish-language YouTuber Agustin Laje: “The feminist movement of this century has been a militancy whose main objective is enabling the murder of women’s children.” He said, “Those of us who have dedicated years of our lives to deeply studying feminism know perfectly well that it was never anything more than an excuse for women to kill their own children. That is why there is no ideological contradiction here. Nobody who truly knows the nature and essence of the feminist movement should be surprised by this. The feminist movement of this century has been a militancy whose main objective is enabling the murder of women’s children. That’s it.” [YouTube, Agustín Laje Arrigoni, 8/22/26]

Right-wing coverage of Clancy’s case is a “political trial balloon” for attacks on women’s rights
-
These misogynistic attacks are not new — right-wing media have repeatedly backed proposals over the years to strip women of their vote and to restrict birth control and abortion access. Instead, the Lindsay Clancy case has become the latest effort by conservatives to reframe coverage of an attention-grabbing news story as part of a larger campaign to roll back women’s rights.
As feminist author Jessica Valenti writes, “I’ve been truly frightened at how quickly empathy for one very sick mother has become a referendum on whether women deserve rights at all.” -
What started as ‘reasoned’ op-eds and online forums advising men to treat Clancy’s case as a relationship test for their girlfriends and wives has further curdled into viral videos of men vowing they’ll never vote for a woman again, calls to institutionalize any woman who supports Clancy, and thousands of comments on social media posts and articles simply stating “repeal the 19th.” As in: end women’s right to vote.
This isn’t run-of-the-mill conservative outrage or harmless thought exercises. It’s a political trial balloon. Conservatives are looking for any reason at all to broadly subjugate women, and they see the furor around Clancy’s case as their best opportunity in years.
