On MS NOW's The Weekend, Angelo Carusone highlights MAGA misinformer John Solomon's role in Trump's election denial

JONATHAN CAPEHART (CO-HOST): The people around him, just letting him do this just so he could get it out of his system. And I say that because we don't have to. We played the — we showed the picture yesterday; but it's the vice president, the chief of staff, the acting attorney general, the FBI director, the DN — acting DNI. They're all in that room as he spouts all these falsehoods and lies and relitigates the 2020 election. And that's why when Fox News decided, you know, we're going to show it, but we're not going to talk about it. Was this just a let's make the big guy feel good about himself?
ANGELO CARUSONE (PRESIDENT, MEDIA MATTERS): I think, yeah, I'm sure that's that's a part of it. But what I think we can't discount are a few things. One, that John Solomon guy. He's bad news. He's a harbinger of bad news. And it's worth remembering, especially in the context of that silly video, is that he is largely responsible for Donald Trump's first impeachment. He was the one that was pushing the Giuliani Ukraine stuff that Trump sort of ran with. This guy has a long track record. He is a a sort of a pied piper of conspiracy theories and narratives that Trump is willing to run with.
And the second thing is that it gets to the point that you're talking about with the people around him. Let's talk about some of those people. This week, JD Vance went on Joe Rogan's podcast and said that Spencer Pratt is the legitimate mayor of Los Angeles, that the election was stolen. So they may not want to carry water for Venezuela or China stealing the election or some kind of Italian satellites involved switching votes. I mean, this is not, maybe they don't want to carry water for those stories, but they are willing to push the idea that the election is being stolen. They're willing to push the predicate that something big is here and it requires increased action. And it's not just Vance. The people around, that are in key positions, like, you know, Heather Honey, who's in DHS, who used to be, who was an election denier, and now she's a government official. My point is these people don't need to storm the Capitol anymore. They were issued badges. They're part of the government. So the audiences are small, but the actors are significant.
