CHRIS MATTHEWS (HOST): How do you deal with the problem -- that a lot of women I know and work with -- whenever a man, you’re a man, or Trump, who is a man,  criticizes Hillary Clinton, they hear male criticizing woman? How do you avoid that? That’s real.

PAUL MANAFORT: Again, that's real, too, but again, it depends on which women you are talking about. There are -- many women in this country feel they can't afford their lives, their husbands can't afford to be paying for the family bills. Hillary Clinton is guilty of being part of the establishment that created that problem. They’re going to hear the message. And as they hear the message, that's how we are going to appeal to them.

MATTHEWS: You heard what you just said didn’t you? You said women are concerned about their husband's income?

MANAFORT: I can speak personally to that

MATTHEWS: Is that the 21st century talking? That that’s their big concern? How their husband’s doing at work?

MANAFORT: Because they can't afford their lives anymore. That's the point. It's not a -- for some people it's a matter of jobs. Other people, it's about affordability.

MATTHEWS: You have got to sharpen up this appeal to women.
