JOE SCARBOROUGH (CO-HOST): Yesterday we had Dave Brat on, of course, who beat, who did he beat?

MIKA BRZEZINSKI (CO-HOST): Eric Cantor.

SCARBOROUGH: Eric Cantor. He came on yesterday. And basically said that Paul Ryan was out of touch. I'm not sure if we're talking about trade or what issues we were talking about. But on this populist, on these populist issues, the Republicans are really finding themselves torn apart by what Trump says.

JOHN HEILEMANN: Torn apart. The idea that Paul Ryan is, I mean, by the transitive property if you listened to what Trump said last night, he accuses, he was saying that Paul Ryan is in favor of the rape of the U.S. working class.

SCARBOROUGH: And Republican leadership.

JOHN HEILEMANN: I use Ryan as a stand in for basically the totality of the Republican establishment.
