Fox Contributor Claims Media Criticism Of Ben Carson's Mass Shooting Comments Is “A Hit Job”

Bernie Goldberg: “This Is What Happens When You're A Conservative Republican With Good Poll Numbers”

From the October 8 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor:

BILL O'REILLY (HOST): And what say you about this, Bernie?

BERNIE GOLDBERG: Well, Bill, as you know -- and I want to get this on the record early on -- I'm not a fan of Dr. Carson as a presidential candidate. Outside of that he seems to be a very nice guy and certainly a talented doctor, but he has said too many outrageous things for me to think he'd be a good president. The United States, for instance, is not like Nazi Germany. But in this case this is a hit job on the doctor. He was asked a specific question: what would he do if he were in that situation? And he answered what he would do. When I heard this, it didn't even occur to me that he was second-guessing the victims. But this is what happens, Bill, this is what happens when you're a conservative Republican with good poll numbers. The other side has to bring you down and unfortunately, in this case, the other side is made up of more than a few people who at least dabble in journalism.

O'REILLY: You're absolutely right. This is an organized campaign --

GOLDBERG: Exactly.

O'REILLY: To smear people with whom these far left idiots disagree.

GOLDBERG: Right.
