The Right-Wing Media's Obsession With Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Hair

Figures in the right-wing media have a puzzling habit of attacking Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz's hair. They have coupled this with other sexist attacks -- for instance, Rush Limbaugh's description of her as "one of those women you're happy somebody else married."

Conservative Media: "Frizzilla"; "She Of The Angry Perm"; She Uses "Mayonnaise" In Her Hair

Greg Gutfeld Calls Wasserman Schultz "Frizzilla." From Fox News' The Five:

GUTFELD (co-host): So, in my mind, which is made of felt and potatoes, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the best thing to happen to Republicans since Ronald Reagan. Seriously, I've had wedgies less irritating than her. And that can only chafe the Democrats. Case in point: Once again the DNC chair links the Tea Party to the Tucson mass murder. So, Frizzilla, I bet you think the discourse in America, the discourse in Congress in particular, has really changed. [Fox News, The Five, 1/12/12]

Dana Perino Mocks Wasserman Schultz's Hair. From an exchange on Fox News' Happening Now between co-host Jenna Lee and Dana Perino, co-host of Fox News' The Five:

LEE: Let's just say it's Halloween, and you're dressing up as the spokesperson for the DNC. Let's just say that that's your role.

PERINO: With better hair.

LEE: Let's just say that that's what you're doing. [Fox News, Happening Now, 1/12/12, via Mediaite]

Monica Crowley: "Debbie Wasserman Schultz, She Of The Angry Perm, Has Some Real Nerve." From The Five:

CROWLEY (co-host): O,h come on. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, she of the angry perm, has some real nerve. For years, the left has been lying and smearing about the right, and the right has just sat there and taken it time and again. [Fox News, The Five, 7/21/11]

Limbaugh: "Debbie Wasserman Blabbermouth Schultz" Uses "Mayonnaise" In Her Hair. From Rush Limbaugh's radio show:

LIMBAUGH: Debbie Wasserman Blabbermouth Schultz, no relationship to Ed Blabbermouth Schultz. And she is demanding everybody buy an American car, just like she doesn't. Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz does not drive an American car. The Hill claims that Ms. Schultz drives an Infiniti and a Nissan. She doesn't even own a Subaru.

[...]

LIMBAUGH: The good news is that she does use a domestic brand of mayonnaise in her hair to compensate for the fact that she doesn't buy an American car. Well, she's doing something to her hair. Looks like mayonnaise, I don't know what. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Rush Limbaugh Show, 5/27/11]

More Sexism: "Anthony Weiner, Only An Octave Higher"; "Chairbabe Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz"

Michelle Malkin: Wasserman Schultz Is Nothing More Than "Alan Grayson In Heels" And "Anthony Weiner, Only An Octave Higher." From Fox News' Hannity:

MALKIN: Well, it's quite a nasty little self-serving circus in the Beltway, and of course it's rife with double standards, particularly when it comes to the tone, the tenor, and the lack of quality of arguments of Debbie Wasserman Schultz herself. When it comes to the quality of her arguments, she's nothing more than Alan Grayson in heels, and when it comes to the tone of her rhetoric, she's nothing more than Anthony Weiner, only an octave higher. This is a woman who was just recently accusing the Republican party of sending America back to the Jim Crow era, and you didn't hear all the civility police demanding that she rachet down her rhetoric and make America's children proud. Remember that it was just mere months ago that President Obama was wagging his finger at all of us and asking us to make sure that we were making future generations proud with the quality and tone of our debates. [Fox News, Hannity, 7/20/11]

Limbaugh: "Chairbabe Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz." From Limbaugh's radio show:

LIMBAUGH: Here's the byte. It happened yesterday in Washington at the Politico Playbook breakfast. The new chairbabe of the Democrat National Committee, Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz, spoke. During the Q&A, CNN senior White House correspondent Ed Henry and Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz had this exchange about the economy. [Premiere Radio Networks, The Rush Limbaugh Show, 6/16/11]

Limbaugh: Wasserman Schultz Is "One Of Those Women You're Happy Somebody Else Married." From Limbaugh's radio show:

LIMBAUGH: And she was kind of shocked at first. She's a scrapper. I've seen Debbie Wasserman Schultz in action. She's one of those women you're happy somebody else married. And I'll tell you, she acted like she didn't know -- Dawn, it's a joke. Dawn's in there's going, "Oh no, he was so good today. Why did he have to do that?"
