As a guest on the July 16 edition of Special Report with Brit Hume, FOX News Channel political contributor and senior writer for U.S. News and World Report Michael Barone accused those whom he called "Michael Moore Democrats" of "rooting against America" and claimed that "they would rather see America lose than [President George W.] Bush win."

From the July 16 edition of FOX News Channel's Special Report with Brit Hume:

BARONE: The problem with the Democrats is that they have got to get these Michael Moore Democrats, who in some cases -- in Michael Moore's case, they're really rooting against America; or at least, you know, in some cases they would rather see America lose than [President George W.] Bush win. And then get -- they have also got to rally these other Democrats, people who have qualms about the war but definitiely want to see America win. Who are opposed to George W. Bush on some issues and so forth, but don't feel this huge rancor towards him.

This is not the first time Barone has smeared liberals by making unsubstantiated accusations. Just last month, as Media Matters for America noted at the time, Barone claimed, "MoveOn.org folks were cheering when they heard of Reagan's death."
