Newsmax host says Republicans must “run for the hills from abortion”

SHARLA MCBRIDE (HOST): Congressman, what we're seeing now is when Republicans choose to run on issues like abortion, it's simply not working. Do they need to start getting away from this as we go into 2024?
JACK KINGSTON (GUEST): Yes, I think you really need to start talking more about the crime issue, but also about jobs -- jobs, jobs, jobs. Economic issues, I think you bring people to the poll -- and I would say in Virginia, the parental rights issues is still a win for Republicans. But I also want to point out this -- it's hardly a mandate. The Democrats won the House of Delegates and the Senate by one vote. They still have to work with Glenn Youngkin. So, I don't think it was a total horrible night. He was not swamped. The other thing is Virginia -- and I'm a part time resident here -- it is a very purple state at its best. I live in a nice neighborhood in Alexandria, I'm afraid to put up a Trump sign because I don't want a brick through my window and I'm not exaggerating on that. Most Republicans here have some form of voter intimidation. In fact, the GOP chairman of Arlington has filed a complaint about Democrat voter intimidation.
ROB FINNERTY (HOST): I think, Jack -- I'm gonna push back a little. I think that Republicans needed a touchstone last night. They didn't get it in 2022. They definitely didn't get it in 2020 when Joe Biden won the White House. So, Republicans are now -- I think some of this falls on the RNC and Ronna McDaniel -- the Republicans are now set up for four bad, four -- you could even say five losing elections, if you want to go back to 2018. This is not looking good. And there was no touchstone victory for Republicans. I was watching Kentucky. What happened there? The Democrat won. I was watching Virginia. Yeah, it was close. But guess what? Glenn Youngkin's gonna have a really difficult time moving his agenda forward in Virginia. You go to Ohio, and Ohio just became the seventh state in the country to make access to abortion rights part of the state's constitution. More are going to follow. This was not a good night for Republicans by any stretch. And I'll just add to that -- the abortion issue, we've talked a lot about that over -- that we are two years removed from Dobbs now. Republicans need to -- Sharla said, move away from it -- they need to Heisman this issue altogether, run for the hills from abortion.
