Whale Attack Tragedy Sparks Media Video Rights Argument

The recent tragic death of a Sea World trainer attacked and killed by a whale at the amusement center sparked an outpouring of grief and sympathy for her and her family.

But it has also raised the issue of what right the media has to video of the incident.

Orlando Sentinel Columnist Mike Thomas makes a persuasive argument in a piece online today, noting the need for media to have access to information, especially in this Internet age.

“There have been conflicting accounts of what happened at SeaWorld Orlando. And there are vested interests, ranging from the theme park to animal-rights groups, with a stake in how the incident is portrayed,” he writes. “The quickest way to the truth is the video.”
