Florida Football Coach Apologizes to Reporter

Coach Urban Meyer of the University of Florida football team, who got into a confrontation with an Orlando Sentinel reporter last week, apologized to the sports writer, the St. Petersburg Times reported Sunday.

Jeremy Fowler had come under scrutiny from Meyer for quoting player Deonte Thompson as saying John Brantley, the team's new starter, was “a real quarterback” compared to former starter Tim Tebow.

“Meyer met with ... Fowler on the practice field Saturday - a conversation in which Fowler said an apology was extended and accepted. The conversation lasted about 22 minutes, and Meyer declined to speak with other reporters afterward,” the Times reported.

“I won't get into the details of the conversation, but I will say that Urban did apologize, and I feel like as far as a work-related conversation, it was constructive,” Fowler told the paper.
