Hoft uses weather-related deaths in Europe to make petty global warming joke

Jim Hoft isn't one to miss a chance to use cold December weather as an excuse to falsely suggest that global warming isn't real.

Today, he's at it again, citing reports of deaths in London due to cold weather there and extreme snow and cold throughout Europe to take a petty jab at Al Gore and global warming. After quoting from British reports on the extreme weather, Hoft wrote, “Al Gore was not available for comment.”

As Media Matters has repeatedly noted, scientists agree that short-term localized weather patterns are not relevant to global warming. Moreover, NASA has said that 2010 is the hottest climate year on record and likely will be the warmest year on record overall.

Of course, if Hoft feels its worth commenting on localized weather patterns, one has to wonder where he was in July, when Washington, D.C., tied its record for the hottest month ever recorded.
