Nugent While Promoting Discovery Channel Special: “Anti-American” Obama Feigns Respect For Veterans

Ted Nugent appeared this past Sunday on Armed America Radio to promote his special on gun culture that will air on the Discovery Channel tonight. During his appearance, The Washington Times columnist and National Rifle Association board member went on a sustained rant against President Obama.

Nugent made a number of wild-eyed accusations against Obama and his policies, referring to the president as “a Mao Zedong wannabe.” In his view, Obama's administration is “anti-American, anti-quality of life, anti-freedom, anti-liberty, and anti-being the best that you can be” while the president himself is “against the very spirit” of “the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.”

Nugent also accuses the president of implementing communist policies, while pretending to honor fallen U.S. soldiers at sites like the Vietnam Wall, an act which Nugent calls “one of the most vile, repugnant, obscene gestures in the history of American politics.”

NUGENT: Clint Eastwood in all his mastery explained to us that, regardless of your ideology, this guy, this President Barack Obama clearly is intentionally dismantling the greatest quality of life in the history of the world. His policies are anti-American. His polices and his czars and his administration are anti-American, anti-quality of life, anti-freedom, anti-liberty, and anti-being the best that you can be. Every word, deed, and action by Obama is against the very spirit of rugged individualism, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution and Clint Eastwood nailed it, just like Mitt Romney nailed it just the other night.

NUGENT: This guy, this Barack Obama is a Mao Zedong wannabe. Everything he stands for, all of his policies, all of his smoke and mirrors, his mastery of deception and deceit and outright lying, is so Mao Zedong. In fact a lot of his czars, a lot of Barack Obama's czars, will look right in the camera and say, “Yeah, I'm a communist and I like it.”

And let me frame it in the most egregious and offensive way, if I may.

MARK WALTERS, HOST: Please.

NUGENT: The President of the United States, the Commander in Chief, which is supposed to be respected by the heroes of our U.S. military; Barack Obama goes to the Vietnam memorial wall in Washington where 58,000 American patriots and heroes and warriors gave their lives fighting communism. When he is not at the wall pretending to show tribute to these warriors, he's implementing communism. The very system that these warriors died fighting against. This wouldn't qualify as a Planet of the Apes script. [Mad magazine mascot] Edward [sic] E. Neuman wouldn't produce this movie. It's too stupid. And for Americans to accept that the Commander in Chief is implementing communist policies while feigning respect for heroes who fought communism is one of the most vile, repugnant, obscene gestures in the history of American politics.

The Discovery Channel has billed Ted Nugent's Gun Country as “an inside look at American gun culture through the eyes of staunch Second Amendment defender Ted Nugent.”

In promotional material for the special, Nugent is praised as “a rock and roll legend” and “a strong and vocal advocate for guns,” but what is left unsaid is his tendency to direct hateful speech against the Obama administration, women, religious and ethnic minorities, and members of the LGBT community. In his own words, Nugent has described the Discovery Channel special as an opportunity to advance his point of view in the “culture war.”
